Lyoren Victor Teffeteller

November 18, 1930 — December 31, 2019

“A Celebration of his Life”

Lyoren Victor Teffeteller, 89, was freed from the burden of Alzheimer’s disease on December 31, 2019. He was born in Alcoa, TN on November 18, 1930 to Elmer Lawrence Teffeteller and Christine Long King Teffeteller. With the exception of a few years, he lived his entire life in Maryville, TN and graduated from Maryville High School in 1949. He attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN through ROTC and received his B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1953 and was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force. He was the first in his family to attend and graduate college.

The same year he married Wanda Walker and they were happily married over 66 years. They moved to Cocoa Beach, FL where he served at Patrick AFB and where their first child and son, Mike, was born. After two years of service, they moved back to Maryville where Lyoren started working at Alcoa. Shortly after, their daughter, Kathy, was born. He worked at Alcoa for 34 years like his father before him and his son still. After retirement in 1987, he and Wanda traveled all over the U.S. and internationally. They enjoyed being grandparents to their three grandchildren. Lyoren was an avid fan of the Vols and attended almost every home football game for over 35 years. He loved to walk on the Greenbelt and up until recently, he fed the ducks there every day. He loved all five of their beloved dachshunds.

Lyoren was a member of First United Methodist Church where he and Wanda taught Sunday School and a Bible study class for several years. Previously, they were members of First Baptist Church and he served as a deacon. After retirement, he became active in adult education, Habitat for Humanity and many church-based mission projects. He served on a tax equalization board in Blount County and on the board of the Jamestown Village Residents Association. He will be remembered as a great husband, father, son, grandfather, teacher, manager, builder, mentor, neighbor, friend, and volunteer.

He is pre-deceased by his father, Elmer Lawrence Teffeteller, and his mother who passed when he was six, Christine Long Teffeteller; his stepmother, Deloras Godfrey Teffeteller; and his brother, John Robert Teffeteller. Survivors include his beloved wife, Wanda Walker Teffeteller; his son, Michael David Teffeteller and his wife, Caryn, and grandson, George; and daughter, Kathryn Teffeteller Webb and her husband, Gary, and grandson, Tyler Webb, and his wife, Lauren; and granddaughter, Tracy Webb.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 PM, Friday, January 3, 2020 at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home and the funeral to follow with Rev. Catherine Nance and Rev. Charles Ballard officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Grandview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association or the
