BEST, LYNN ANN – age 87, of Maryville, died Thursday, May 30, 2002 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir, and active in the Women’s Association. She was a librarian with Maryville College from 1961 to 1975 and together with her husband, Ed, promoted the Blount County Friends of the Library. Lynn Ann was born September 11, 1914 at Braemar, TN, the daughter of Leon W. and Della (Sutton) Brown. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennet High School, Kingsport, TN and Maryville College where she continued volunteer service. After college, Lynn Ann taught at Cloudland High School, Roan Mountain, TN for two years until her marriage to Edwin J. Best, Greenback, TN in 1938. Lynn Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edwin J. Best, and brother, George Sutton Brown. Survived by her sister, Mary Gladys Brown Pieper; sister- in-law, Mary Emma Allen Brown; son, Edwin J. Best, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Caroline Best; and three grandchildren, Sarah Best Campbell, Katherine Best, and John Best. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002 at New Providence Presbyterian Church. Pastors officiating include Emily J. Anderson. Her ashes will be placed in the New Providence Cemetery by the family prior to the service. The family will receive friends after the memorial service in the sanctuary of New Providence Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Maryville College, Blount County Public Library, or New Providence Presbyterian Church Music Fund.
