Lt. Col. David C. Nichols, Sr.

Lieutenant Colonel David C. Nichols, Sr., age 76 of Greenback, passed away Christmas Day, December 25, 2005 at Asbury Place in Maryville. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee September 1, 1929. Mr. Nichols moved to Blount County in 1957 as a part of the military force that transitioned McGhee Tyson Air Force Base from an active US Air Force Installation to its current status as a National Guard Base. Mr. Nichols served for 35 years in the military. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His service included the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and he was activated along with other members of the 134th during the Berlin Crisis. He was the son of the late C.W. and Bonnie J. Nichols of Nashville. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma J. (Hunley) Nichols; sons and daughters-in-law, David C. Jr. and Janet Nichols of Louisville and Terry L. and Patricia Nichols of Maryville; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Alexis and Brian Reese of Mt. Juliet; April and Josh Hawkins of Knoxville and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by brother and sister-in- law, Jack H. and Nell Nichols of Birmingham, Alabama; sister and brother-in-law, Bonny J. and H.C. Thomas of Chickamauga, Georgia. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 27th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at McCammon- Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville.
