Louise Cecelia Chapman

Mrs. Louise Cecilia Hanes Chapman (Nanny), 97, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother died May 20, 2006 in Tallahassee, Florida. Mrs. Chapman was born in Frederick County. Maryland to Suzy and Maurice Hanes on March 13, 1909, the first of ten children. She spent her early years, until the age of 24, in the village of Yarrowsburg, currently known as Pleasant Valley, Maryland. Mrs. Chapman met and married Mr. Charles Aaron Carter in Yarrowsburg in 1921, and they lived in Brunswick, Maryland with their children Kathleen Rachel Carter and James Howard Carter until her husband's death in 1929. She was remarried to Mr. Herbert Chapman, Chief Petty Officer, in 1944, and was widowed in 1958. Mrs. Chapman lived and worked in Washington'' D.C. She retired to Maryville, Tennessee, and moved to Tallahassee, Florida with her daughter Kathleen in 1997. She was known by her friends and family as a deeply faithful person of prayer, whose life exemplified generosity, gentleness, compassion and kindness. Her family received many beautiful knitted and other hand made presents, with each stitch made with prayer, and benefitted from her cooking, humor and deep wisdom. Nanny was known for her love for her dear pet poodle Oscar. Mrs. Chapman was also a person of great dignity, who bore the loss of her husbands and son with grace and strength. Mrs. Chapman is survived by her daughter Mrs. Kathleen Carter Moore, Tallahassee, Florida; her grandchildren and their families: William B, Moore, Jr'' Colonial Heights, Virginia, Sheila Moore Andrus, Birmingham, Alabama; and Cha-Che Moore, Tallahassee, Fla. Her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild, are: Ms. Michelle Moore and daughter Jazmyne; Pilar and Chloe Andrus; and, Erika and Kenyon Moore Bertelsen. Mrs. Chapman's surviving siblings are Thelma Thompson, Fredrick, Maryland; Madeline Brooks, Walkersvil1e, Maryland; and, Glenn W. Hanes, Pleasant Valley, Maryland. lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mrs. Chapman memory to Big Bend Hospice, Tallahassee, Florida; Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Tallahassee, Florida; and/or Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Alcoa, Tenn. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. The entombment service will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8:00 P.M. at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Maryville.
