Linnie Grogan Kidd

Linnie Grogan Kidd, 92, of Winter Park, FL, died Saturday, December 8. Mrs. Kidd was a lifelong educator. She earned her bachelors degree from Delta State Teachers College in 1943 and taught in the early years of her teaching career at Glen Allan and Clarkdale, MS. In 1950, she earned her masters degree in education from George H. Peabody College for Teachers (Vanderbilt University). Mrs. Kidd enjoyed a distinguished career as a second grade teacher in the Broward County (Florida) Public School System. Her classroom was a 30-year fixture at Peters Elementary School in Plantation, FL, with former students asking to place their children in her second grade class. She was a strong advocate of better working conditions for teachers, and helped organize the Broward County Classroom Teachers Association. She was a founding member of Plantation Presbyterian Church, where she held various leadership roles, including that of elder. Mrs. Kidd was born November 20, 1921 to George Washington Grogan and Ida Myrtle Hambrick Grogan, of Vaiden, MS. In 1948, she married Rex C. Kidd, of Maryville, TN, with whom she had two sons, Reggie McReynolds Kidd and Randy Grogan Kidd. She is survived by her son Reggie, three grandsons, and a nephew, Frank Kidd, of Maryville, TN. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Reggie Kidd officiating. The interment will follow in Carpenters United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-1:30 p.m. Saturday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.
