Laurie Lynn Boyd, 64, of Friendsville TN, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Melbourne Regional Hospital.
Born on July 5, 1960, in Columbus, Indiana, Laurie graduated from Jennings County High School. She began her career at Geoker Building Supplies and later at The North Vernon Plain Dealer in North Vernon, IN. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Gordon Boyd, on October 8, 1976, the two moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, to raise their family.
Laurie’s professional journey continued at The Oak Ridger newspaper, and later for ten impactful years at The Maryville Daily Times, where she worked in advertising and built lifelong relationships throughout the community. She served as Vice President of Build Building and Remodeling, and through Boyd Building, she and Gordon worked closely with local realtors to revitalize neighborhoods and support families in times of urgent need.
Laurie was a devoted member of Zion Chapel Baptist Church in Louisville, TN, where she and Gordon joyfully carved wooden statues each year for the Lottie Moon Fundraiser. A woman of strong faith and servant-hearted spirit, she encouraged and uplifted everyone around her, especially through her involvement in the Vanderbilt Lung Buddy community—where, after receiving a double lung transplant on June 25, 2021, she supported and inspired fellow transplant recipients with uplifting messages, music, and scripture.
Laurie had a love for gardening, often canning her harvests and gifting the results to friends and family. She treasured winters spent on the beach in Melbourne, FL, where she fished, enjoyed the ocean, and relaxed under that sun that warmed her spirit. She enjoyed spending precious time with her grandchildren—always encouraging them in their dreams and passions. Whether it was watching Sophie’s ballet recitals, attending church functions with Abigail and Jackson, sharing funny photos with Joel, looking forward to Ella’s horseback rides, or anticipating a flight with Ethan as he pursued his pilot’s license—Laurie was always present, always cheering them on.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Lois Young. She is survived by her father, Ronald Young; sisters, Amy Young and Penny Wingate; her loving husband of 48 years, Gordon Boyd; and their children: Damian Boyd (Rochelle) of West Chester, OH; Stephanie Koch (Tim) of Lenoir City TN and their children Ethan, Sophie, Ella, and Joel; and Jennifer Marquis (Zak) of Valdosta GA and their children Jackson and Abigail. She took immense pride in her grandchildren and celebrated each of their accomplishments—especially Jackson, a firefighter with the Lowndes County Fire Department.
Laurie’s vibrant energy, compassionate heart, and unwavering faith will be remembered by all who had the joy of knowing her.
A visitation for immediate family will be held at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville, TN, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, followed by visitation for family and friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, with a service at 7:00 PM on Friday, April 18th.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Vanderbilt Transplant Center, in honor of Laurie’s legacy and her passion for helping others.
