Murfeesboro

Larry Gene Boring, 76, of Murfreesboro, TN, lost his battle with cancer and passed peacefully to his heavenly home, on July 17th, with family and loved ones by his side. He was born in Maryville, TN on May 1st, 1948. Larry graduated from Lanier High School and received his Undergraduate and Master’s Degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Early in his career, Larry taught Special Education. After a few years of teaching, his passion and love for the outdoors called and he became a salesman with Precision Shooting Equipment (P.S.E) archery company, where he was a Regional Sales Manager. His sales territory in the 1970’s was the entire Southeast and Larry made many great friends during his travels and the many trade shows he worked. Larry worked at P.S.E. for many years and loved every minute working in the industry he was so passionate about.

During his career at P.S.E., Larry became an accomplished archer and bow hunter; he took several Pope and Young elk and several trophy deer. Larry was also just as happy hunting deer or turkey for the sake of putting his harvest in his freezer, as he was also an excellent cook particularly of wild game.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman and spent as much time as he could hunting and fishing. He was an expert fly fisherman and became a fishing guide on the Little TN River at the young age of 15. He took many friends and family on exciting and fun fishing trips. His beloved German Shorthair, Bow, traveled extensively with Larry and his beautiful soul mate, Linda, and loved to “point” fish and retrieve them when Larry brought them to the bank. Our family dubbed Larry “The Trout Whisperer” because he could find trout when no one else could. Even his hand-tied fish flies are legendary. Larry began taking his daughter, Brittany, hunting and fishing at the age of 2, passing on to her the way of life he loved. His passion and wisdom for the outdoors will be carried on for generations to come.

Larry was also a karaoke fanatic and became quite an amazing singer. He especially loved singing “real” country music. Linda would occasionally join Larry in a duet or sing solos. Some remarkably close friendships were made during these fun times.

Larry is survived by the Love of his Life, Linda Parker Ingram, of Murfreesboro; beloved Daughter, Brittany Elizabeth Boring, of Madisonville; Brother, Don E. Boring, of Maryville; Sister, Laverne Copenhaver, of Ooltewah; and Sister, Brenda Jordan (Jim), of Charleston, TN. He is also survived by a special Aunt, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Great-Nieces, Great-Nephews, and Cousins, along with Linda’s Daughters, Granddaughter & Great Granddaughters whom he cherished. Larry was preceded in death by his precious Son, Jason Demshock Boring; his Parents, Glenn & Maxine Boring; Grandparents, Alex & Jennie Medlin; Grandparents, William S. & Elizabeth Boring; Sister and Brother-in-law Glennis & Al Ball; Sister and Brother-in-law, Janice & Jim Braun; Brother-in-law, Jim Copenhaver, and Sister-in-law, Francis Boring.

Larry was “one of a kind” and loved his family and friends beyond measure. He was a generous guy who lived his life with passion and joy; he never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed, but our precious memories will sustain us and we will see him again.
