Kenneth Edward Shepard

SHEPARD, Kenneth Edward was born November 11, 1929 in Maryville, TN. He passed away May 7, 2006, at Blount Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Ken was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Maryville High School, Maryville College with a B. S. Degree in Education in 1954, and The University of Tennessee-Knoxville with a M.S. Degree in 1959. He served in the Korean War from 1950-1952. During his military career, he was captain of the Army football team at Ft. Devins, MA in 1952. He served as an assistant football coach at Maryville College from 1954-1957. Ken served as a teacher and football coach at Maryville High School from 1957-1963. From 1963-1967, he was a teacher, coach, athletic director at Valley Point High School in Dalton, GA. In 1967-1978, he served as teacher and basketball coach at Lanier High School. He served as the Principal at Lanier High School from 1978-1979. He completed his career with the Blount County school system as a supervisor from 1979-1990. In 2002, Maryville College honored Ken Shepard with the induction into the Maryville College Athletic Wall of Fame. He is preceded in death by parents, Everett and Margaret Bise Shepard; siblings, Clarence Shepard, Ellen Shepard LeQuire, and Joseph Shepard. He is survived by his wife, Jan Clemens Shepard of Maryville; son, Randy Shepard and daughter-in-law, Sarah Shepard; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Cindy Shepard; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Rick Pickens; son and daughter-in-law, Ken Lee and Melissa Shepard; grandchildren, Dustin and Derek Shepard, Tyler and Haley Pickens, and Blake Shepard; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Helen Shepard of Harlingen, TX; sister, Frances Reid of Athens, TN; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Burnett officiating.
