Kathyrn (Katy) Enger Sjostrom, age 91, died Saturday May 25, 2024 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Katy was born April 20, 1933 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. She earned a teaching degree from Mankato State University and taught 5th grade in Richfield, MN and Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico before marrying Fred Sjostrom, her beloved husband for 63 years.
Katy was preceded in death by her husband Fred Sjostrom and her cherished daughter Inger Sjostrom; her parents Julius and Harriet Enger; sister Mary Pirsig and brother John Enger. She is survived by her daughter Gretchen Prisock; sons Ric (Leslie) Sjostrom and Jon (Erin) Sjostrom. The joy of her life was her grandchildren, Lauren (Adam) Morrill-Ragusea, Andrew Morrill, Claire (Sam) Fulliton; Stefanie (Nathan) Madison, Eric Sjostrom; Jacob Sjostrom, Noah Sjostrom; Chris Beaton, Blake Beaton. She is also survived by her great-grandsons, Freddie and Leo Ragusea and Weston Madison. Katy’s smile lit up the room when she spent time with her great-grandsons. She is also survived by her sister Julie (Doug) Nelson and many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to all of the staff at Brookdale Sandy Springs Assisted Living who were so kind and loving to our mother during the last two years of her life. As she did throughout her life, Katy made strong friendships with everyone at Brookdale and our family is grateful to you. Please know that she loved you all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Katy’s memory to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 314 W. Broadway Ave., Maryville, TN 37801. Memorial service for Katy will be held Saturday June 15 at 11:00 am at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Maryville, TN with a reception to follow in the Great Hall at St. Andrews.
