June Endsley Koontz

March 4, 1919 — July 12, 2013

June Endsley Koontz, 94, passed away at her home on July 12, 3013. June was born March 4, 1919, in Friendsville, Tennessee to W. H. Endsley and Oela (Jones) Endsley. She graduated from Friendsville Academy and attended Maryville College. One of her greatest joys was teaching piano. She taught music at her home as well as in the Blount County Schools. In earlier years she was active in the Alcoa Garden Club, pianist for the Alcoa Rotary Club and enjoyed playing golf with the Green Meadow Ladies Group. June was also a member of the Smokey Mountain Passion Play Guild which supported the Smokey Mountain Passion Play of Townsend. She touched many young lives as pianist of the Alcoa First United Methodist Childrens Choir where many plays and programs were performed. She was a seamstress, flower gardener and a crossword puzzle enthusiast. She loved her cats. She was a big fan of UT Mens and Lady Vols basketball. She was preceded in death by husband, Carl Koontz, along with her brothers, Roy and Leonard Endsley. June is survived by her son, Dr. Bill Koontz (Bonnie) of Louisville, KY, and her daughter, Karol Fowler (Larry) of Alcoa; her grandchildren, Carl Koontz (Rachael) of Louisville KY, Rachel Amshoff (Teddy) of Louisville, KY, Sarah Fowler Stanley (Damien) of Maryville, Jamie Czornohus (Zach) of Friendsville, Jason and Jeff Fowler of Alcoa, and Jennifer Millsaps (Robbie) of Alcoa; great grandchildren, Marlee Watts, Evan and Preston Koontz, Caroline Amshoff, Ryan and Kaylee Millsaps. She is also survived by special niece Julie Hannah who was her devoted care giver for eight years. June attended Alcoa First United Methodist for several years and was a member of Friendsville Friends Meeting (Quaker) House. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3, at the Friendsville Friends Meeting House, 503 Hill Avenue, Friendsville.
