MURPHY, Judson Boynton, age 85 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born in Clinton, Missouri, April 12, 1916, he graduated from Alcoa High School and attended Maryville College. He served honorably in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Jud was a local automobile dealer for over 40 years, a motor home dealer, developer of the Airport Motor Mile area and a developer of Scenic Point. He and his son also developed Turnberry Vista and Jamestown Village. He was an active member of New Providence Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where he served as a deacon and elder, including Clerk of Session under three ministers. He co-chaired the building committee of the present church. He served on the Board of Directors of Maryville College, as Chair of the Red Cross, and as President of Maryville Kiwanis, its most senior member with over 65 years He has received several community awards, the most recent being Blount County’s Pride of Tennessee award for his history of community involvement and work for local betterment. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Andrew J. Murphy, his four sisters, Isabella Richardson, Gladys Long, Stella Henderson and Katherine Murphy. Survivors include his wife, Lois Brown Murphy; son, Robert J. Murphy; granddaughter and husband, Lisa and Jeffrey Rotton; great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Murphy Rotton. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and their families, Isabella Laun, Andrew Richardson and Ralph Richardson; and by brother-in-law, Robert L. Brown and nephews, David and Steven Brown and family. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, at New Providence Presbyterian Church with Rev. Emily Anderson and Rev. Philip Bembower officiating, after which the family will receive friends in Westminster Hall. The family will attend his interment in Grandview Cemetery prior to the service.
