Judith Wherry Callaway, age 63, passed away unexpectedly August 5, 2005, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Priestly and Margaret Kerrigan Wherry, and brothers, Priestly Wherry, Jr. and Robert Emitt Wherry. She is survived by her husband, Dr. James Miller Callaway; children: Margaret Callaway Ramsey and husband Bill of St. George, VA; J. Miller Callaway, Jr. and wife, Mary Alice of Knoxville; Carrie Callaway Denkinger and husband Tom of Asheville, NC; and Carol Callaway-Lane and husband Joe of Nashville; grandchildren, Emily and Cal Ramsey and Liam and Allie Callaway; sister, Mary Jane Webb of Spring Hill, TN. Judy was proud of her ancestral heritage, tracing her lineage to General Daniel Smith, an early Sumner County settler, whose home, the Rock Castle in Hendersonville, TN, is a popular tourist attraction and to Emily Donelson, a niece of Rachel Donelson Jackson. Judy was a graduate of The Nashville General Hospital School of Nursing and worked there in the newborn nursery before moving to Maryville with her husband in 1964. She was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church, Junior Chilhowee Club, and former President of the Blount County Medical Auxiliary. A memorial service will be held at New Providence Presbyterian Church at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 8, with the receiving of friends following the service. Private internment at Grandview Cemetery will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be given to New Providence Presbyterian Church or to Maryville College Scholarship Fund.
