Juanita Blanche Fortner Morton, 93, passed away March 11, 2015 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Morton is survived by her sons and daughters in-law Bill and Jane Morton, and David and Teresa Morton, granddaughters Elizabeth and Emily Morton, sister and brother in-law Eula Gray and A.B. Goddard, and sister in-law Sue Morton (Eugene) Swann all of Maryville. Nieces and nephews Melissa Goddard Bernhardt (Rick) of Atlanta, Ga., Jerry Morton of Richmond, Va., Jack Morton (Patsy) of Murfreesboro, George Robert Smith (Betsy) and Andy Morton of Walland, Phil Morton of Knoxville, Rob Goddard (Fran), Sally Gideon Sayles, Glenn Morton (Linda), Joe Swann (Becky), Art Swann (Janet) and Tim Morton (Susan) all of Maryville. Mrs. Morton was preceded in death by her parents Elisha Newton Fortner and Mary Pearl Edmondson Fortner, husband of 31 years Joe Houston Morton, in-laws Granville Andrew Morton and Grace Talbott Morton, sisters in-law Ruth Morton Hall Riley (Frank Hall, C.A. Riley), Madge Morton Gideon (John) and Jean Morton Smith (George Robert), brothers in-law John Morton (Pauline), Charles Morton (Alice) and Glenn Morton, and nephew Mike Smith. Mrs. Morton was born on October 7, 1921 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. She was a 1940 graduate of Maryville High School and a 1944 graduate of the University of Tennessee. During her long teaching career, she taught Home Economics at Alcoa High School, and elementary grades at John Sevier Elementary School. Mrs. Morton retired from Maryville City Schools in 1984. She will be remembered by many as a caring teacher and a devoted friend, and by her family as a loving mother and grandmother. During her lifetime Mrs. Morton was a member of both New Providence Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church of Maryville. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 on Friday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 in the Chapel. The Rev. Catherine Nance will officiate. There will be an interment attended by family at Grandview Cemetery on Saturday officiated by the Rev. Dr. Emily Anderson. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Welcome Table fund at either New Providence Presbyterian Church or First United Methodist Church or Maryville. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Mark E. Green, Dr. Mahdi M. Budayr , Dr. Ousama Dabbagh, Dr. Samar Alsharif, Dr. Mohammad J. Shafi and Dr. William E. Lyles, as well as the Palliative Care and Hospice Teams and exceptional nursing staffs of MICU, 4th floor and 2 East at Blount Memorial Hospital.
