Joseph R. Redwine, 67, passed away on Jan. 31, 2014 at UT Medical Center after a brave 18-month battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease). He was born in Louisville, KY, graduated from Bearden High School in 1965, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT) in 1971 with a Bachelors degree in Communications. At UT, he was a member of the Pride of the Southland Band, where he met Donna, his wife of 44 years. Joe retired at age 52 as owner of Kar-Glo Automotive Detailing. He spent his retirement at the beaches of Charleston, SC with his beloved family. At home, in the Topside Community of South Knoxville, the Redwines could be found on the patio every evening at 6:00, feeding the koi in their fishpond. Joe was a master chef and enjoyed preparing delightful gourmet meals with family and friends. Laughter intermingled with aromas from his latest kitchen creations. Joe loved photography and was always ready with his Nikon camera. He took thousands of pictures of the wildlife surrounding his home. He was a wonderful writer and a brilliant political debater. Joe had the uncanny ability to make his friends laugh while simultaneously wanting to fight him back! Joe and his wife were loyal supporters of the Young-Williams Animal Center where he found his beloved cat, Sophie, who followed him throughout the house. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret DeBord Redwine, and his father, Edgar O. Redwine. The Redwine traditions and family continue with Joes son, David D. Redwine, Captain, United States Air Force (Charleston, SC), Davids girlfriend, Casey Reichanadter (Savannah, GA), Joes wife, Donna W. Redwine (Knoxville), his step-mother, Maxine Redwine (Shannondale Community, Maryville), brother, Steven J. Redwine and JoAnn Redwine (Knoxville), and many other loving and supportive family members and friends. The family would like to thank the neurology staff at Vanderbilt Medical Center, nurses and doctors at Summit Medical Center, and members of the ICU at UT Medical Center for their kindness and support. They would also like to thank the caretakers who helped Joe spend his life comfortably at home during the last few months. In lieu of flowers, please make donations In Honor of Joe Redwine to the TN ALS Association online at ALSTN.org or by mail to ALS Association TN Chapter, P. O. Box 40244, Nashville, TN 37204. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Reverend Dixie Lea Petrey at the McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville, TN, on Sunday, February 9.
