Joseph Michael ''Mike'' Dennis

August 4, 1943 — December 2, 2011

Joseph Michael “Mike” Dennis, age 68, passed away at home on December 2, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Auburn and Robbie Weeks Dennis, and his brother Ben Dennis. Mike is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sandy Dennis; children, Monika David, Eric Dennis, Chipper Wyatt, Ashleigh Jones, and Josh Dennis; brother, Bob Dennis; sister, Sara Dennis; grandchildren, Trey Belcher, Taylor Dennis, Jared Belcher, Joe Dennis, Bryce Belcher, Wyatt Jones, Emma Wyatt, Ella Wyatt, and Amaleigh Jones; daughters-in-law Lisa Dennis and Janice Wyatt; son-in-laws Danny Jones and Jim David; and his best friend, Bobby Everett and his many other friends from the “Newsroom”. Since coming to Blount County, Mike was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, First Methodist of Maryville, St. John United Methodist Church, Broadway United Methodist Church, and for the past seventeen years has been a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Happy Helpers Sunday School Class. Mike attended high school in Guin, Alabama, lettered in three sports, and was inducted into the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. Mike was a four-year football scholarship recipient at the University of North Alabama where he was an honor graduate in 1969. He served honorably in the United States Army Reserve for 12 years. Mike worked as a Park Ranger for the United States Park Service from 1969 to 1980 serving on Natchez Trace Parkway, Fort Sumpter National Park, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He was a sworn federal law enforcement officer, certified in dive rescue and emergency medical technician. He served on dignitary protection details for the Queen of England and Lady Bird Johnson Mike retired from Alcoa after 25 years working as a supervisor in the pot rooms. Mike loved the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and his favorite pastime was fishing the streams in Tennessee and North Carolina. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2011 at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Long officiating. The interment will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville, 982-6812 In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Heritage Middle School Benevolence Fund, 3737 E.
