Joseph Lee Salser, age 64, of Maryville passed away at home on Thursday, July 3, 2014 of natural causes. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, he will missed by many.He was preceded in death by his father, James Salser; brother, James Salser Jr., and first wife, Ellen Salser. He is survived by mother, Mary Zarndt Salser of Ravenswood, WV; wife, Susan Miller Salser; daughter Cheryl Salser and grandson Timothy, of Bristol, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jerry Cowan, and grandchildren Abby and Jack, of Maryville; and step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Eric Green and Jennifer Williams, and granddaughter, AbiLynn of Campbell County. Born on July 17, 1949, in Ravenswood, West Virginia, Joe graduated from Ravenswood High School in 1967 and joined the United States Marine Corps. With Ellen and their daughters, Joe continued his Marine career in Whidbey Island, WA, and Millington, TN, landing in Anaheim, CA for most of his career. Joe was honorably discharged from the military in 1983 and began a second career in electronics that eventually brought him to East Tennessee. Retiring from Joy Mining Machinery in 2001 he dedicated the rest of his life to family, friends, and fishing. In 2013 Joe began another chapter in his life when he married Susan Miller. Together, Joe and Susan enjoyed spending time together and with family. Whether it was attending ball games, school programs, or sharing a snack, "Pappa" loved to be with his grandchildren and take them fishing or for special treats. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 am Monday at Grandview Cemetery for a graveside service with Dr. Jerry Russell officiating.
