Jon Anthony ''Tony'' Koella, Sr.

Jon A. (Tony) Koella, age 67 of Rockford passed away Wednesday, March 1st. He was an active community servant as a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church, Alcoa Kiwanis Club, and Tennessee Ornithological Society among other organizations. He graduated from Maryville High School, North Carolina State University and Harvard University where he received an MBA degree. He served as State of Tennessee Assistant Commissioner of Conservation from 1973 to 1975 under Governor Winfield Dunn who named him a Tennessee Colonel, was inducted into the Kiwanis Legion of Honor for distinguished service, and in 2005 was awarded the Tennessee Ornithological Society (''TOS'') Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contributions towards the preservation of natural wildlife habitats and conservation efforts. He is preceded in death by his father, Carl O. Koella, Sr., brother, Carl O. Koella, Jr., and his daughter, Kristen Evans Koella. He is survived by his wife, Mary Laura Koella, of Maryville; his sons, Jon Koella, Jr., and wife, Sherry, of Dandridge, TN, Louis (Bummi) Koella, and wife, Elizabeth, of Sewanee, TN, and William Koella of Alexandria, VA; his daughters, Julia Mayshark and husband, Jesse, of New York City; Jennifer Koella of Alexandria, VA; his granddaughter, Margaret Koella ; his grandsons Carver and Alexander Koella, and Zoller Mayshark; mother, Betty Koella of Rockford; brother, Stephen T. Koella of Rockford; and several nieces and nephews.
