Johnnie ''J'' Jones

Johnnie “J” Jones, age 88 of Maryville, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was an active member of Broadway Baptist Church. He served with the U. S. Navy from January 1941 thru March 1947. He received his training at Norfolk, VA, served on the USS Omaha CL4, USS Hale Destroyer DD642, APA 229 Rockingham, 3rd Class Petty Officer Coxswain and participated in Operation Crossroads Atomic Bomb Test at Bikini Atoll Marshall Islands. He was retired from Rock TN Box Company after 28 years of service, having retired in December 1986. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth E. Jones; father Pike Powers Jones; mother, Flora Lee Blackburn; sisters, Dorothy Kendrick, Charlotte Musso, Juanita Ferguson. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Thompson Jones; daughter, J. Darlene Brown Lambert; 4 grandchildren, Darla Brown Johnson and husband Randy, Andy Jones, Brian Jones, Kendra Jones; 2 great grandchildren, Cody Earl Garner, Ava Kennedy Hild. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Saturday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Tony Collins officiating. The interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
