John T. Jenkins, age 80, of Maryville, TN peacefully passed at his home December 11, 2016. John spent the last 20 years of his life in Maryville, but before that lived in the Nashville area. He was an avid golfer and sports fan, particularly University of Tennessee football. He loved NASCAR and actually raced as a young man. He also loved his dogs, Salt and Pepper and the late Budd. He built many of the state's interstate highways while associated with Hoover Crushed Stone of Nashville. He also built the Saturn plant in Springhill, TN. Preceded in death by his parents Riley and Martha Jenkins and his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Darlene Jenkins. He is survived by his wife Gayle E. Jenkins. He is also survived by children Johnny Jenkins (wife Pam), Jackie Kemp (husband Donnie), their mother Mary Grey Jenkins, Jeffrey Jenkins and Diane Jenkins, their mother Shirley Jenkins Abel, sisters, Linda Savage and Shirley Harris, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, a step-daughter, Nicole Squires, 3 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great grandchild, several nieces and nephews and other extended family. The family will receive friends 12:30-2:00pm, Saturday December 17, 2016 at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville, TN with A Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00 pm. In lieu flowers, if so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Piney Level Baptist Church, Maryville, TN or Blount County Humane Society.
