CARRINGTON JR., John Robert, age 67 of Maryville, passed away at the University of Tennessee Medical Center on Sunday, April 13, 2003. Mr. Carrington was a native of Greenville, NC and had a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Master’s Degree in Education from East Carolina University and Fitchburg University respectively. He was fluent in Chinese and Japanese, having studied at the Army Language School in Monterey, CA. He achieved the rank of Major working in Army Intelligence for fourteen years. He served tours at the Pentagon, Ft. Holabird, MD, Ft. Devens, MA, Hawaii and Japan. He served two years in Vietnam. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Japan in Tokyo, Japan. He traveled extensively throughout Asia, Europe, South America and the U.S. He was an avid lover of art and architecture, classical music and opera and enjoyed playing the piano. Since leaving the Army, he and his wife, Martha Forkner Carrington have operated their business, Wedding Wonderland. Mr. Carrington was preceded in death by his parents, John Robert Carrington, Sr. and Sadie Wrae Carrington. In addition to his wife, Mr. Carrington is survived by son, John Robert Carrington, III of Savannah, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and James P. Laurie, III of Raleigh, NC and their daughter, Virginia; sister, Della Dayson; niece, Debra Dayson and nephew, Mike Dayson; great nephews, Thomas, William and John Carrington Nisbet of NC; brothers-in-law, S. Franklin Forkner, Jr., David L. Forkner and wife, Judith; niece Remonie Sparks and husband Rick Sparks; great niece and great nephew, Katelin and Clay Sparks; nephew, Samuel Forkner all of Maryville. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Mattson officiating. The entombment will follow in Grandview Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 11-12:00 p.m. Wednesday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville, TN.
