John L. Loveday

July 23, 1923 — August 26, 2013

John L. Loveday, age 90, passed away peacefully at Blount Memorial Hospital after a short illness on August 26, at 6:08 p.m. He was a very faithful member of Middlesettlements United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities over the years. John was also a 50 year member of New Providence Lodge #128. He was one of the last surviving business men of downtown Maryville. He started his career at Norton Hardware, Sterling Seed and Supply and retiring from Loveday Hardware which he co-owned with his brother, Sam H. Loveday, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam H. Loveday, Sr., Stella Hammontree Loveday; brothers, Sam H. Loveday, Jr. and Howard Laymond Loveday. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Imogene Talbott Loveday (Boots); son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Janice Loveday; grandchildren, Brian, Nathan and Courtney; great grandchildren, Will, Lauren and Lexi Loveday; brother, Raymond Loveday; sister, Anna Margaret Sands. A very special thanks to Carol Moore who was a wonderful caregiver and friend, Dr. Mark Green who was much more than a doctor, also a caring friend to Mr. John; all the wonderful nurses in the Emergency Room, 4th floor stroke unit, comfort care who made his last days as easy as possible, nephew, Jack Loveday who did many things for John over the years. The family will be in the fellowship hall of Middlesettlements United Methodist Church Wednesday from 1-3:00 p.m. to receive friends who may have difficulty at a later time. From 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday they will receive friends in the Sanctuary and funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Ron Fisher officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Church cemetery for the interment service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimers Tennessee, Inc., Eastern TN Chapter, 2270 Sutherland Ave., Suite 202, Knoxville, TN 37919.
