WESTON Sr., John H., was 83 when he died of Pancreatic Cancer at his home in Maryville on Wednesday, April 23, 2003. John grew up playing on the hills of Harrogate, TN and playing on the Lincoln Memorial University Campus located there. His first job was at ALCOA, briefly, before working in a shipyard in Newport News, VA. Shortly after Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy serving on an oil tanker where his Ports of Call included Australia, Iran and Sicily. After the war, John earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Tennessee Tech University and a Master’s Degree at George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville. With his young family, he moved to Maryville, Tennessee where he was principal at Fairview Elementary School and then a teacher at Everett High School. Later, John managed the Union Store on Broadway. Beginning in 1962, John started his own business, John Weston Paving, which he managed until retirement in 1982, when he sold out at a nominal price to his sons. He was a member and former Elder of New Providence Presbyterian Church. He also worked with Hospice when the program started up, a Group who was so good to him in his last two weeks. John enjoyed his last 20 years with his friends and family, from ramping, historical excursions, walking at Foothills Mall and politicking in the mornings at McDonalds. Mr. Weston was preceded in death by his parents, Milton C. and Loula Mae Headen Weston; sisters, Jeanette Weston Hill, Elsa Weston Powers and Wanda Weston Hopgood; brother, M. C. Weston, Jr. Survivors include: wife of 54 years, Ruth Henry Weston; sons and daughters-in-law, John Hill and Carol Bailey Weston, Thomas William and Deanna Hanle Weston all of Maryville; daughter, Ruth Mary Weston of Greensboro, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and Steve Williams of Dallas, GA; grandchildren, Brian Weston and wife Tina, Rachael Weston, Benjamin Williams, Amy Williams, Spencer Weston and Caleb Weston; great grandson, Jacob Weston; sisters, Margaret Weston Stapleton, Kathryn Weston Beck and Betty Neal Weston. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at New Providence Presbyterian Church with Dr. Emily Anderson and Rev. J. Steven Musick officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. Sons and grandsons will serve as Pall Bearers along with R. F. “Pete” Peterson and Jesse Brown, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, E. T. Office, 900 E. Hill Avenue, Suite 240, Knoxville, TN 37915; to the Good Neighbor Program at New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 W.
