John David Walker

John David Walker, age 80 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Mame Walker. Survivors include wife of 55 years, Mary Crowell Walker; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and George Pharr of Farragut; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Raffi Markarian of Chicago; son and daughter-in-law, John and Deanna Walker of Maryville; grandchildren, Mathew and Adam Pharr, and David, Kristen and Eric Walker; sister, Louise Walker Cook of Simi Valley, CA; brother-in-law, Jim and Ann Crowell of Carrollton, GA. David was a lifelong member of Big Spring Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. He was a graduate of Friendsville High School and the University of Tennessee with a BS in Animal Husbandry. At UT, he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He served as president and lifetime director of Blount Co Farm Bureau; president and director of the Blount Co Livestock Association; president and director of Blount Farmers Co-op; director of First Federal Savings and Loan; director of Union Planters Bank; director of Blount Co Mutual Fire Insurance. In 1963 he was the Outstanding Young Farmer of Tennessee and received the Blount County Conservation Award. Other awards include the Distinguished Block and Bridle Alumni Award and the FFA Distinguished Service Award. Family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. with funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. G. Kenneth Gates and Edward Umbach. Interment will follow at Big Spring Cemetery.
