CHAPMAN, Carl, age 81 of Maryville, passed away Friday, June 23, 2006, at Morning View. He was a member of First Christian Church, was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Army, was a graduate of the University of TN, a member of the Alcoa Kiwanis and a member of Friends of Blount County Library. He worked in the early years of the United States Space Program. He was a member of the Engineering Group that designed the Saturn 5 solid fuel rocket booster. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Chapman, son, Tim Chapman; brothers, Roy, Arch and Tom Chapman; sister, Ruth Chapman Thompson. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Debbie Chapman of Atlanta, GA; sisters-in-law, Mary Charles McMillan, Margaret and Velma Chapman all of Maryville; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Sunday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with a graveside to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Clark’s Grove Cemetery with Harold Ray, Minister officiating.
