Joe W. Spence, age 90 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at his home. He was the longest living in the Spence family, was a member of New Bethel Methodist Church, Dayton, TN and retired from P.S. Scales after 331/2 years. He loved farming, gardening and loved to visit his neighbors. He also loved playing with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delsie Long Spence; parents, Robert Ed and Jessie Purser Spence; and brother, Robert Spence. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Bobbie Jo and Charlie Ridings, Jean and Benny Finley; son and daughter-in-law, John and Delsa Spence; son, Ed Spence; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Helen Kerr; brothers, Bill, John, Felix, A.P., Walter and Steve Spence; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Carpenters Cemetery for a graveside service with Rev. Ken Tucker officiating.
