Jettie “Faye” Estes, age 78, born in Maryville, TN went home to her heavenly family on Monday evening, July 31, 2023, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Tampa, FL with her faithful husband, Lewis Estes and her loving son, Alan Estes by her side. Faye grew up across the street from the family church at Pleasant Grove and grew to know and love the Lord. Faye graduated from Walland High School in 1962. Following graduation, Faye worked at Blount Memorial Hospital as a Ward Clerk. In 1965, Faye moved to Atlanta, GA, and worked for Eastern Air Lines first as a Flight Stewardess, then as a Gate Agent based at Atlanta Municipal Airport where she ushered people into the “Jet Age” of commercial flight. Faye married her sweetheart, Lewis in 1966 and in 1971 she gave birth to their only child. Following childbirth, Faye stopped working at Eastern and devoted the remainder of her life taking care of both Lewis and Alan. In 1980, they moved to Dover, FL where Faye and Lewis lived together for the next 43 years. Faye loved the Lord completely, kept to her own council, comforted others with her exceptional baking skills, made her own clothes, drapes and quilts, and gave her heart to the needs of others more than to herself.
Faye was the youngest daughter of 9 children, born to Carson “Elmer” Caldwell and Jettie Proxie Caldwell. Both parents have preceded Faye in death as well as her brothers Robert Elmer Caldwell, Harold Eugene Caldwell, William Keith Caldwell; sisters Mary “Evelyn” Headrick and Helen Rose Beasley.
Faye is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Lewis Arlin Estes and her devoted son Larry “Alan” Estes; daughter-in-law Carolyn Anne Estes; grandsons Luke Abram Estes and Robert “John” Estes; brothers Donnie Ray Caldwell and Jimmy Lynn Caldwell; sister Reba Catherine Bible; sister and brother-in-law Harriett Anna and Kenneth Charles Irwin, and a host of other relatives and friends too numerous to list.
A Celebration of Faye’s life will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Pleasant Grove Church. Visitation will begin a 1PM, followed immediately by the service led by Pastor Greg Long, and burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send a check or cash donation in loving memory of Jettie Faye Caldwell-Estes to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 3736 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37804.
