Jean Elizabeth Campbell Rokes passed away peacefully on February 10, 2011, at Shannondale Retirement Center in Maryville, Tennessee. Mrs. Rokes was born in Southport, Indiana on July 11, 1912, and graduated from Maryville College, Tennessee in 1933. While pursuing a career as a flight attendant, she met her husband, Nelson Ulmer Rokes, a pilot. Married in 1944, they traveled the world, and settled on a farm in New Richmond, Ohio. Mr. Rokes became the chief pilot for Proctor and Gamble in Cincinnati. After her husband’s death in 1979, Mrs. Rokes returned to Maryville, TN, and spent her retirement years in the service of others, serving on the board of Maryville College Alumni, receiving an Alumni Citation in 1989. She served as an Elder at New Providence Presbyterian Church, was a long-time volunteer with the Sam Houston Schoolhouse, and was a founding member of Blount Memorial Hospice, where she served for 20 years. She is survived by her son, Douglas Arthur Rokes of Sugarland, Texas, her granddaughter, Mary Rokes Mikeska, of Bellville, Texas, and two great grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth and Stephen Caleb Mikeska, of Bellville, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 14 at 2PM at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home followed by interment at Grandview Cemetery.
