Janet Sue Waters

December 26, 1950 — July 27, 2016

Janet Sue Waters, 65, of Maryville, Tennessee passed away on July 27, 2016, at the Hospice of West Alabama Inpatient Facility (The Helen H. Hahn House) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Grace Waters. She is survived by her brother, Terry Waters (Carole), of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; a nephew, Griff Waters (Crissi), of Hoover, Alabama; a niece, Callie Waters Gregory (Brian), of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; two great-nephews, Loper and Hank Waters, of Hoover, Alabama; and an aunt, Mary Sue Thames, of Maryville, Tennessee; and many cousins and close friends. Janet was born the day after Christmas in 1950, and was a life-long resident of Maryville, Tennessee. She graduated from Porter High School in the Wildwood Community, and later graduated with a degree in elementary education from Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee where she was a cheerleader. Janet taught in the Blount County Tennessee School System for 27 years and was adored by her students at Montvale Elementary as a loving and dedicated teacher, always willing to offer special care to students in need. Janet courageously battled the ravages of rheumatoid arthritis and other afflictions for over 45 years. Pain was a constant companion throughout her entire adult life. But through it all, she remained steadfast in her Christian faith, confident that a new life free of pain awaited her in Heaven. Janet was a member of the Logan's Chapel United Methodist Church in her hometown community of Wildwood, where she and her family were very active for many years. Janet's network of loving and caring friends and relatives was nothing short of incredible. Empathizing with her condition, they drove her to doctors' appointments, cooked homemade meals, included her in holiday celebrations, cleaned her house, mowed the lawn, delivered medications, purchased groceries, and spent days and nights at her house when she was unable to be alone. Janet loved to care for stray and abandoned animals, providing food and water on her back porch and veterinary care for countless numbers of cats and other animals, each of which she gave a name. Janet was an avid University of Tennessee fan; and, like her mother, rarely missed a televised broadcast of the Lady Vols basketball team. The family would like to express deep appreciation to the wonderful nurses and staff at Hospice of West Alabama and to Executive Director, Ms. Latrelle Porter, and to medical directors, Dr. John Miller and Dr. George Miller, for the compassionate and professional care that they provided to Janet. Janet's family will receive friends at 10:00 A.M on Monday, August 1, at Logan's Chapel United Methodist Church, 4626 Logan's Chapel Loop, Maryville, TN 37804-3151, followed by a service at the church at 11:00 A.M. officiated by Rev. Gary McCammon of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Maryville and Rev. Ann Robins, Lead Pastor at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Afterwards, Carole and Terry Waters will host a luncheon in the Logan's Chapel Fellowship Hall for all friends and family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Janet's memory be made to Logan's Chapel United Methodist Church or to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404. Arrangements are being coordinated by McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville, Tennessee.
