Jane Rita Bowling Gariety

February 12, 1932 — February 28, 2014

Jane Rita (Bowling) Gariety, 82, died peacefully of cancer on Friday, February 28, at home. Jane was born to the late Fred and Ora (Gilkey) Bowling, February 12, 1932, in Seymour, IN, the fourth of six children. She married the late Charles E. Gariety, MD, in 1954. Chuck and Jane raised a family in Piqua, OH, before retiring to Tennessee in 1989, to be near their favorite place of leisure, The Great Smoky Mountains. Jane was deeply devoted to her family and the Catholic faith. She took great pleasure in cooking, IndyCar racing/NASCAR, knitting, and bridge. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Gariety and is survived by six of her seven children: Jerry Gariety, of Knoxville, TN; Patrick Gariety, of Worcester, MA; Anne Gariety, of Maryville, TN; Philip Gariety, of Canal Winchester, OH; Charles Gariety, of Plain City, OH; and Elizabeth Baker, of Olympia, WA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her oldest child, Jack, died in 1978. Funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Townsend, TN on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with lunch served afterwards.
