James (Jim) William Mayes, Jr., age 83, passed away at home Saturday, September 28, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 30, 1930, to James Mayes and Lois Brown Mayes. Jim lived in Maryville, Tennessee his entire life except the time he spent proudly serving his country during the Korean War. He was a long time active member of Maryville First Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir for 54 years. Jim graduated in 1954 from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Jim retired from Alcoa Aluminum in 1989 with 35 years of service. Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed many camping trips throughout the U.S. with his family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Jim is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Lillian Burton Mayes and four children, Darrell Mayes (Sylvia), Wayne Mayes, Kevin Mayes (Karen) and Karen Mayes Johnson (Jeff); six grandchildren, Alicia Mayes Bateman (George), Brandon Johnson, Brittney Johnson, Kaitlin Mayes, Samantha Mayes and Matthew Mayes. His surviving cousins are Sandra Mayes Kimmel (Ron), and his maternal cousins the Browns Jackie, Nancy, Linda, Becky, and Clifford all from Texas. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 P.M. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Ballard officiating. Family and friends will Meet 11:00 A.M. Monday in Grandview Cemetery for the interment service. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 7:30 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maryville First Baptist Churchs Building Fund.
