James "Jim" Fred Borden

May 9, 1934 — June 13, 2017

James "Jim" Fred Borden, 83, died June 13, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was a proud graduate of Everett High School class of 1953. Longtime business man, he opened the first Allstate Insurance office in Blount County in 1961. His business still proudly runs under his name. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time outdoors, trading auction finds, traveling in his RV, and restoring tractors. Always joking, you could count on Jim for a good laugh or funny story. He had the kindest heart, and loved his family and friends dearly. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Blanch McKeehan Borden, and sister Carolyn Borden Anderson. Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Phyllis Hicks Borden, son David (Vicki) Borden and family Joy (Kevin) LaForce, kids Tanner and Taylor LaForce, Austin Lyttle, Jeremy and Anna Masingo; daughter Beth (Rick) McDaniel, grandson Ryan (Katie) McDaniel, granddaughter Morgan McDaniel, and great granddaughter Lucy McDaniel. Survivors also include his sister, Lois (Robert) Owens; brother Harry (Jan) Borden; brother-in-law Steve (Sherry) and Madalin Hicks; and brother-in-law Norman Hicks. Jim also had many nieces and nephews that he loved. In lieu of flowers, per Jim's request, please support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Receiving of friends will be held at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home from 5:00 7:00 P.M. on Thursday a service to follow at 7:00 with Rev. Tyson McKeehan officiating. Family and friends will meet 11:00 A.M. Friday at Grandview Cemetery for the interment service.
