James C. ''Dizzy'' Deane Jr.

July 7, 1928 — November 4, 2001

James Charles “Dizzy Deane Jr. age 73 of Maryville passed away Friday, October 2, 2001 at Fairpark Nursing Center. Dizzy was born in Harlan County Kentucky July 25, 1928. He spent his childhood years in Rogersville, TN. and in Eagleton Village. He picked up his nickname “Dizzy” as a youngster and like the famous ballplayer with the same nickname, he too had a brother Paul. He graduated from Stare Tech High School in Knoxville. He worked as an electrician for many years at ALCOA, from which he retired. He also worked as an electrician at Cape Canaveral, Florida in the 50's and 60's as part of the Mercury Program that sent such men as Alan Shepard and John Glenn into space. He spent many years as coach, referee, and supporter of youth programs in football, basketball, and baseball. He loved his family, he loved his church, he loved children and he loved the Tennessee Volunteers. All that knew him knew his favorite color to be orange. He will be missed by all that loved him. He was preceded in death by: wife, Anna Lou(Williams)Deane and later by wife, Sara (Walker) Finley Deane. He is survived by: 2 sons and their wives, Jim and Georgiana Deane. David and Kay Deane. 3 step-children, Mickey Finley, Claudia Amburn, and Michael Finley. Grandchildren, Marl Amburn, Sara Amburn, Shelbi Deane, Joshua Deane, Joseph Deane, and James Deane IV. Brothers, Paul Deane and wife Sue. Kenneth Dean and wife Mary. Sisters, Wanda Byrum and husband Reed, Lois Davis and husband Wayne. Ginnie Sue Long and husband Don, Pat Deane. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8:00 PM Monday, November 6, 2001 at McCammon-Ammons- Click Chapel with Dr. Kenneth Dean officiating. Family and friends will meet 11:00 AM Tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment. The family will receive friends 7:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
