James A. (Jimmy) Norton, Jr.

James A. (Jimmy) Norton, Jr., died on December 14, 2009, at his home. He was a graduate of Maryville High School, attended the University of Tennessee, and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a graduate of the School of Banking at Louisiana State University and the Graduate School of Business at Harvard University. In 1957 he opened and was Manager of Blount National Bank’s Broadway Branch that was the first bank branch to be established in Blount County. He was employed by Blount National Bank for 38 years and was President of Blount National Bank when it merged with First American Bank of Knoxville, and was Maryville Area President of First American Bank prior to retirement in 1987. In every endeavor Jimmy made a multitude of friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, James A. Norton, Sr. and Cora Ellen Norton; his sister, Jama Ellen Norton, his brothers and wives, J. Ray Norton and Geraldine Rawlins Norton and Frank R. Norton and Esther McCall Norton, two infant grandsons, Shan Charles Norton and Steven James Norton. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene Wilson Norton, his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Gary Baumgardner of Knoxville, TN, his son and daughter-in-law, Steven Richard Norton and Rebecca Carrier-Norton of Black Mountain, NC, his grandchildren, Jason Baumgardner of Atlanta, GA, Alex Norton of Louisville, TN and Katie Norton of Maryville, TN. His former daughter-in-law, Gloria Free of Maryville, TN is the mother of Alex and Katie. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1-2:00 p.m. at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather at Clark’s Grove Cemetery on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. for a service conducted by Elder Autumn Hall. Memorials may be made to the Blount County Rescue Squad, P. O.
