Irene ''Bill'' Cates Thompson

THOMPSON, Irene Cates “Bill”, born in Blount County on June 20, 1909, died in Colorado, November 29, 2005, at age 96. Irene was the fifth born child of Edgar W. and Sarah D. Cates of Blount County. Irene married Robert M. Thompson of Salem, IN in 1931 and had three children, Mary Ann Thompson of Denver, CO, Florence Ellen Wood of Cincinnati, OH and Robert M., Jr. of Maryville. She was a Knoxville City school teacher, retiring in 1975, and later worked as a church secretary at New Providence Presbyterian Church in Maryville. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Maryville Book Club and Music Club. Her greatest loves were her family, reading, good food and her grandchildren. A private interment service will be held. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Morgan Biggs officiating.
