Inis Loy Wyrick Smelser

Smelser, Inis Loy Wyrick- age 83 left this physical existence Saturday, January 19, 2008. Inis graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Home Economics and was a teacher for several years. Later, she earned a masters degree in Christian Education from Scaritt college in Nashville. She Served as Director of Education at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Fountain City, Magnolia United Methodist of Knoxville, and First United Methodist Church of Maryville, where she remained and active member. She was on the General Agency Board of Discipleship and traveled around the United States participating in the training of laity. Most recently, she accepted leadership roles with Asbury Women in Mission and was an involved contributor to Asbury Place in Maryville where she resided. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth C. Wyrick and her husband of 27 years, Charles Boyd Smelser. She is survived by her three children, Ken Wyrick and wife Lee of Avon, CT; Steve Wyrick of Maryville, TN; Jan Wyrick Dempsey and husband Jon of Maynardville, TN; step-daughter, Sandra Watt and husband Don of Jackson, TN; sister, Betty Sharp and husband Clayton of Corryton, TN. Inis joyfully claims nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and 7 step great grandchildren. The family asks that friends join them at First United Methodist Church, Maryville for a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 with Pastors Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to honor Inis, donations can be sent to Lincoln Memorial University, (L.M.U.) H.G.
