Ida Wilder Studley May 18, 1915 – December 5, 2004 Ida Wilder Studley, of Xenia, Ohio and Maryville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on December 5, 2004. After arriving in Maryville in 1932, Ida married Joseph H. Studley Jr. in 1936, became a member of the Presbyterian Church and in the course of raising their children supported and provided leadership for community activities including founding of the Tanasi Girl Scout Council, PTA, Den Mother, Hospital Guild and by playing bridge with T.C. Drake and others began her journey to achieving the level of Life Master bridge player. In the mid 1950’s, at the age of 40, Ida found a new challenge in the sport of golf. Her skills increased in golf and she became one of the founders of the Knox Area Women’s Golf Association. The first President of the KAWGA and another turn at President for the 25th Anniversary year were proud moments for Ida. Along the way Ida became a life Member of Green Meadow Country Club which was presented on her 80th Birthday. Many times a Women’s Club Champion at Green Meadow, Chairperson of The Tennessee Women’s Senior Golf Championship conducted at Green Meadow, and actively participating in Tennessee Women’s Golfing Competitions led to Ida Studley’s induction as an original member in the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame on November 19, 1997. Ida will be missed by all of whom she touched, her infectious smile, her homemade rolls, and her attitude of “refuse to lose”. Ida was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1994 after 57 years of marriage. Ida was also predeceased by her grandson, Mike Studley, five sisters, four brothers and her parents, John and Angeline Wilder. Ida is survived by her daughter, Florence S. Goza (Michael) and son, Robert J. Studley (Judy). Surviving also are loving grandson, Jonathan M. Goza (Kim) great granddaughters, Katherine Anne Goza and Claire Wilder Goza and loving granddaughter, Elizabeth W. Goza-Torrone (Phillip).Surviving relatives include: Sister-in-Law, Alma B. Studley, Nephews, Virgil Wilder (Betty), John Martin, (Maxine), Richard C. Studley Jr. (Polly), Niece, Barbara B. Burdette (William), and many other loving nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 15, at Grandview Cemetery followed by an 11:00 a.m. memorial service at New Providence Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Emily J. Anderson and the Rev. J. Stephen Musick officiating. A reception in the Chapel will follow the Memorial Service. Honorary Pall Bearers will be provided by the Deacons of the Church.
