Howard ''Butch'' Cochran

COCHRAN, HOWARD “BUTCH”, age 60 of Alcoa, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2006 following a heart attack. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church and the Charles Lairamore Sunday School class. He served as Sunday School director of the Adult 2 Department and faithful to serve on Broadway’s Bereavement Committee. At Broadway he always displayed his loving affection for its senior adults. Butch retired from Delta Airlines after 26 years as a reservation sales agent. He belonged to the Prudential Lodge in Alcoa. He was instrumental in introducing cable to Blount County as one of the original appointed members of the Blount County Cable Authority. He was an active member of the JayCees in the mid 1970's. His volunteering efforts were recognized by the City of Knoxville in 1991. Butch was an avid sportsman and outdoor enthusiast. He coached the Little League in Alcoa and the 14/15 year old league at Eagleton Ball Park. He also served as statistician for Alcoa High School, served on the film crew, and even announced games for a brief period while his son played football at Alcoa. Butch enjoyed fishing and would welcome a fishing buddy to join him on his favorite farm pond or to any of the local lakes once the weather permitted to pursue this passion. One could have found Butch picnicking with family and friends in Cades Cove or cooking out and playing croquet in the front yard. He dearly loved his family, kids and grandkids, and would glow in their accomplishments. He had been active in scouting serving in any capacity to see kids getting a good start in life skills. He dearly loved Christmas and Thanksgiving and participated in the cooking and baking, especially his grandmother’s recipe for pumpkin pies. One of his favorite things to do was to prepare dressing with his wife but he always had the last say on the end product. You would see Butch out at some of the local eateries where he always had a favorite waitress that he would ask for. He enjoyed sharing his life’s stories with his friends, loved growing tomatoes in his back yard, and loved all the good folks at Amburn’s Market. He was preceded in death by his parents; James Henry and Alma Grace Cochran. Survivors include his wife, Janie Cochran of Alcoa; daughter, Konnie Taylor and husband Ken Williams of Maryville; son, James “Bobby” Cochran and wife Regina of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Robby and Linzie Mainor of Maryville; step-granddaughter, Tessa Gautreaux of Maryville; brother, Bill Cochran and wife Emily of Alcoa; nephew, Chris Cochran of McMinnville; niece, Susan Cochran of Charlotte NC, nephew, Jeremy Wallace of Knoxville. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 10, in McCammon-Ammons-Click Chapel with Dr. Robert Brown and Rev. Tom Hodge officiating. The interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
