Houston M. Goddard

GODDARD, Houston M.-age 77 Chief Judge of the Tennessee Court of Appeals died Friday, April 2, 2004 at Blount Memorial Hospital. A life long active member of Maryville First United Methodist Church he served in numerous capacities. Judge Goddard served for many years on the Board of Directors of Asbury Acres and Friends of the Blount County Library as well as civic and community boards and committees. He received his bachelor and law degree from the University of Tennessee. He practiced law in Maryville before becoming a Judge. He also served in the state senate and served as a Minority Leader. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jamie Pannell Goddard and his parents, Homer A. and Belle Pickens Goddard. Survivors include wife, Barbara Goddard; children, Drew Goddard and wife Carolyn of Nashville, Joseph Goddard and wife Debra of Richmond, VA; Julia Hawkins and husband Warren of Birmingham, AL; Tom Goddard and wife Rosanne of Franklin, TN; Step-son and wife, Jason and Elizabeth Semple of Williamston, NC; Grandchildren, Houston Goddard, Dawson Goddard, Joseph Goddard, Jamie Hawkins, Warren Hawkins, Sarah Goddard, Elizabeth Goddard, Jim Goddard, and Anna Goddard; Step grandson, Jackson Semple.; Brother and sister-in-law, A.B. Goddard and wife Eula Gray Goddard of Maryville. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM Monday, April 5th, 2004 at the Maryville First United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life will follow with Pastors Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Judges of the Appellate Courts of the State of Tennessee. Active Pallbearers will be Appellate Judges of the Eastern Section of Tennessee. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
