Homer Lee Potter

February 16, 1936 — August 7, 2017

Homer Lee Potter, 81, of Maryville, TN went home to rejoice with his Lord and Savior on August 7, 2017, after a 17 year battle with various cancers. He fought the battle with grace and dignity and finally won the war and received his well deserved reward. He went home to join his parents Thomas and Ada (Hall) Potter, brother Fred Potter, sisters Juanita Blair and Faye Long, son-in-law Art Walker and many other beloved family members and friends. He was a long time member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where he had been a deacon for 37 years. He was a founding board member in the establishment of Chilhowee View Community Center, where he remained active for many years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Berlin Crisis. He retired from Blaine Construction Company after many years of being a carpenter foreman building large commercial structures in many locations. He leaves behind to cherish their memories his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret Grindstaff Potter, daughters Tamra Walker and Kelly (Robert) Simerly, grand children Jared (Ciera) and Kelsi Walker, brother Ronald (Edna) Potter, sister Bernice (Paul) Nuchols and several nieces, nephews and special friends. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, camping, many family adventurous vacations, church activities but most of all loving and spending time with his family. There was no project that he couldnt figure out a solution to. He will be tremendously missed by his loving family and many friends. Funeral services will be at 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Reverends Rex Everett and Bill Grindstaff officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday at the church. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 am Thursday, August 10 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment. Friends can stop by the funeral home any time before Wednesday at 3:00 pm to sign the book. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church or Chilhowee View Communty Center.
