Hildegund M. Griffin, age 84, of Maryville, Tennessee died October 14, 2024. She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family. Born April 20, 1940 in Meineck, Germany, she was one of the three children of Joseph Löffler (1906-1989) and Maria Löffler (1900-1986). The family had a small farm in Meineck, Germany which still exists today. She often told me stories of her up bringing and how life was very hard after the World War, and she passed these stories on to her grandchildren. Hilde completed high school and went to work at a sewing factory in Schweinfurt, Germany, before marrying a handsome young American military man, Billy J. Griffin from Valdese, North Carolina. Hilde was a non practicing Catholic, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her challenges were learning English and coming to a strange new country, America. Besides being a home maker, she always had a part-time job and full-time as we got older. Hilde spent many years being a waitress and cook, and she took pride in working hard and taking care of her friends and family. She enjoyed being at home, cooking and baking her famous cheese cake, and also loved flowers and plants and being in the garden in her spare time. A resident of Tennessee, she is survived by two of three children, William J. Griffin and Dwayne Griffin, her four grandchildren Tyler, Joshua, Elena, and Jeffrey, and one great-grandchild, her brother Manfred Löffler. Hilde was well loved and she will be well missed by her surviving family. The family will have a private service. We will have a memorial at her home when family members from Louisiana are able to come back.
