Hewlette Ray Tipton, Sr., age 87, went to be with his Lord on Monday, May 13, 2013, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Hewlette was born November 13, 1925 in Alcoa, TN. He was a member of First Baptist Church Maryville for over 50 years, where he served his Lord faithfully as a childrens Sunday School teacher and as a deacon. He also served in missions, including mission trips to Haiti and other projects. Hewlette graduated from Everett High School and then joined the U. S. Navy where he served in the Pacific Theater. After serving his country he went to trade school where he studied to become a mechanical draftsman. Hewlette worked in Atlanta and Rome, GA, after getting married, with architectural firms there. He and his family returned to Maryville where he worked as a draftsman with Cooper and Perry Architects in Knoxville, TN for over 35 years. Hewlette was known for his gentle, quiet spirit and being a man of integrity. He loved being in Gods beautiful creation enjoying trout fishing, hiking, gardening and bird watching. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade J. Tipton and Erie Dunn Tipton; and his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Sue Cox Tipton. Hewlette is survived by his children, Kimberly Marlene Garner and husband, Michael; Hewlette Ray Tipton, Jr. and wife, Lisa; and James Louis Tipton; his grandchildren, Alison Garner Hiday and husband, Justin; Lara Garner; Sarah Nell Tipton; Matthew Tipton; Elizabeth Tipton Burgess and husband, Adam; David Tipton; Cody Tipton; and great-grandson, Ethan Michael Hiday; sister, Mildred Eaves; sisters-in-law, Martha Cox, Wanda Gibson, Patsy Hutson and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2013, in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Ballard and Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Grandview Cemetery for the graveside service.
