Henry Nicholas Gardner Hanson

Henry Nicholas Gardner Hanson, Nick to those who knew him well, passed away on November 24, 2024 at the age of 82. He was born and raised in Rochester, New York. He then travelled South to attend the University of Tennessee, earning a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management. He served four years in the United States Air Force after college before retiring from active duty. In addition to working for Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport for 25 years, he also served in the Tennessee National Guard for 25 years. He served as commander of both the 119th Tactical Control Flight and the 110th Tactical Control Flight before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1993. After retirement, he moved to Louisville and settled on the family farm. There, he enjoyed working on the farm and caring for his menagerie of animals including sheep, donkeys, goats, dogs, and even a couple of alpacas. He was also active in the Smoky Mountain Amateur Radio Club. 

He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his two children D. Scot G. Hanson, DVM, and Scot’s wife Carolyn, Lia Campbell, Ph.D., along with Lia’s husband Paul, and Nick’s two grandchildren, Celia and Ryan Campbell, his two step grandsons Travis and Tyler Baars and his nieces Michelle Buchan and Sherry Redman. 

Receiving of friends will be December 21, 2024 from 1:00 - 2:30PM  with a short memorial service to follow at 2:30PM at McCammon Ammons Funeral Home, 220 W Broadway Avenue, Maryville, TN. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in his name to the East Tennessee Honor Guard or the charity of your choice.
