Henry Edward Gerhard, Sr.

June 13, 1926 — November 21, 2006

Henry Edward Gerhard, Sr., age 80, resident of Maryville, TN, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at Baptist West Hospital in Knoxville, TN, with his loving family at his side. He was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church at Maryville. At the time of his death he had been married to June Gerhard for 27 years. Prior to that, he was married to the late Nannette Gerhard Raber. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Burton E. and Rella G. Gerhard, son Henry Edward Gerhard, Jr., and step-son Steven W. Ruyle. Survivors include sons Ronald B. Gerhard of Coopersburg, PA and Jeffrey A. Gerhard of Whitehall, PA, and step-children Nancy Williams of Mt. Dora, FL, June Marie Weirich of Dallas, TX, Geoff Weirich of Atlanta, GA and Greg Weirich of Ludlow, KY, as well as sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. After graduating from William Allen High School, Henry served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. He then attended Lehigh University, where he received a degree in chemistry. After 40 years of employment in research, development and production of cementitious products, Henry retired from Strong Systems, Inc. of Pine Bluff, AR, where he was responsible for many new product developments and applications. Henry was among the founders of the Hokendauqua Park and Playground Association. Memorial services to be held in December in both Maryville, TN and Whitehall, PA will be announced at a later date.
