Helen Hudgens Davis

Helen Hudgens Davis, age 92 of Maryville, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011, at her home. Helen was born in Maryville on Christmas Day in 1918. She was preceded in death by her parents, Minda Rhodes Hudgens and Frank Hudgens, also twin brothers, Lester and Chester Hudgens. Helen was married to Clark John Davis for 34 years before his death in 1979. Terry Clark Davis, only son of Clark and Helen, passed away in 2007. After graduating from Maryville High School, Helen went to work as a nurse’s aid for the Doctors Hospital. In the early 1940's, during World War II, she worked at the Alcoa Aluminum Company. Helen quit work in 1946 to become a full time homemaker and mother. At the age of 80, she decided to continue her education and received a CNA (certified nurse’s associate) license. Helen worked as a “Pink Lady” volunteer at Blount Memorial Hospital for 23 years. Helen was an active member of Everett Hills Baptist Church for over 60 years. Helen’s free spirit and unique sense of humor will be missed by all that knew and loved her. Survivors include daughters and their spouses, Judy and Raleigh Dixon and Vicky and James McMurray all of Maryville; stepdaughter, Mary Ellen Carver of FL; grandsons and wives, David and Susan Dixon of Dayton, OH, Bowman and Susan Davis of Seymour, Bartley and Natasha McMurray, and Brandon (Bubba) and April McMurray all of Maryville; step grandsons, Bill and Chris Strawn; great-grandchildren, Kaeli and Leah Dixon of Liverpool, NY, Lane, Chloe, and Levi Dixon of Dayton, OH, Elijah and Caden Davis of Seymour, Brody, Kylie, Brandt, and Ty McMurray of Maryville. Also, sister-in-law, Shirley Cable; brothers-in-law, Herbert and Earl Huffstetler; nephew, Ricky Hudgens; niece, Charlene Coulter; special friend and care giver, Betty Brown and former care giver, Gladys Harbison. Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Franklin and Rev. R. M. Everett officiating. Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Grandview Cemetery for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.
