Helen Gosney Smith

SMITH, Helen Gosney, age 86 of Louisville, KY, died Saturday, May 12, 2007, after a brief illness. She was born June 2, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, VA, the daughter of the late Edgar and Madge Gosney. She was the widow of Dr. Alvin R. Smith and was preceded in death by two sons, Edgar Newman Smith and David Alvin Smith. Helen was the owner of several businesses in the East Tennessee area, where she resided most of her life. She was a graduate of Dan River High School, in Danville, VA, and Logan Chiropractic School in St. Louis, MO. Helen placed great emphasis on learning and enjoyed a broad range of hobbies and interests throughout her life, including reading, painting, sewing and crafts. Surviving are two daughters, Pat Grover of Greenville, TX, and Lynne Baker of Lakewood, WA; one sister, Melba Tanksley of Danville, VA; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Smith of Knoxville, TN; one sister-in-law, Barbara Spears, of Maryville, TN; six grandchildren, including Kiezha Smith Ferrell of Jackson, TN, Laurel Smith of Smithville, TN and Alex Smith of Knoxville, TN; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2007, in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Sean Ferrell and The Rev. Deacon Lucy Martinez officiating. The interment of the cremains will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville, TN.
