Harold Truman Selecman

Harold Truman Selecman, born in Des Moines, IA on April 5, 1933, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 37 years and served in the U. S. Army for 2 years. He retired to Maryville, TN with wife, Vivian, in 1999. He was a member of Maryville First United Methodist Church, Telephone Pioneers, Friends of the Smokies, and Appalachian Bear Center. Enjoyed traveling, boating, hiking, exploring the back roads of TN, and telling a good joke. He volunteered with the Telephone Pioneers, the Bear Center, and Community Food Connections. Survivors include his wife, Vivian Cummings Selecman; children, David Selecman and wife Diane, Diane Selecman Aschoff and husband Bob, Susan Selecman York and husband Greg; former spouse and mother of his children, Nancy Scott; stepchildren, Rev. Douglas Harding and wife Linda, Christina Harding Bregar Meier Taylor and husband Marty Taylor, Charlene Harding Kruse and husband Adam, Cynthia Harding Crank and husband Tim; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, at Maryville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Carroll and Rev. Doug Harding officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-1:00 p.m. Monday at the Church. Burial in family plot in Des Moines, IA will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blount County Food Connection, Maryville First United Methodist Church or Friends of the Smokies.
