Guy Edward Walker

June 22, 1940 — December 13, 2013

Guy Edward Walker, the beloved husband of Rachel E. Walker, passed away on December 13, 2013, after a brief illness. Born June 22, 1940, in Maryville, to the late Charles H. and Maude Lambert Walker, he was a graduate of the College of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee. He was dairy farmer in Blount County for nearly forty years, and he raised beef cattle until his death. He was honored many times by the Dairy Herd Improvement Association with outstanding production awards, and he also received a Tennessee 4-H Alumni Award for outstanding achievements in his career. After retiring from dairy farming, he worked for Child and Family Services, and he was an environmentalist for the Blount County Environmental Health Department for eleven years. He was an active member of Union Grove United Methodist Church, where he had been a member for 55 years. He was a dedicated member of the South Blount Camp of Gideons International. Mr. Walker served on the Blount County Farm Bureau board and the Blount Farmers Co-Op Board as well as the advisory board of Farm Credit of Mid-America. In retirement, he served as a volunteer reading mentor at Union Grove Elementary School. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Melissa Walker and husband Charles Reback of Spartanburg, SC, daughter Michelle Kennedy and husband Steve of Maryville, grandson Robert Edward Kennedy of Maryville and his fianc Arielle Nivens of Kingston Springs. He is also survived by brother and sister-in-law Charles H., Jr. and Betty Walker of Macon, GA, brother and sister-in-law Samuel Spence and Brenda Walker of Crossville, father and mother-in-law William W. and Evelyn Lewellyn of Greenback, brother-in-law Walt Lewellyn of Greenback, brother-in-law and wife Robert and Kaye Lewellyn of Knoxville, nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends and his beloved beagle Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Laura Ann Tate, a niece, Victoria Renee Chandler, and a nephew Marcus Alan Walker. The family thanks the staff at Blount Memorial Hospital ER, CCU/CRU, 2 East, and the Palliative Care Team for their wonderful compassionate care for Guy and his entire family. We are particularly grateful to Dr. Jane Souther, her partners and staff, Dr. Ousama Dabbagh, Dr. Mohammed Bhatti, and all the staff doctors, nurses, and support team at Blount Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, December 15, 2013, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Hartley and Rev. Beecher Dunsmore officiating. The entombment will follow in Grandview Mausoleum.
