Grayce Marie Hannah Cabage, age 94, of Maryville, died peacefully Thursday, Oct. 16, at her home following a brief illness. Her family was at bedside. She was born December 17, 1919, to Dr. George F. and Ida Taylor Hannah. Siblings included Isaac, Gladys (White) and Lee Hannah, all of whom preceded her in death. Grayce graduated with the Maryville High School Class of 1938. She attended Draughon's Business College. She married Harold N. Cabage of Knoxville on Oct. 1, 1949. Harold died in 1996 after 46 years of marriage. Grayce worked for many years in the Blount County school system food services as supervisor and as manager of the Porter and William Blount High School cafeterias, where she befriended many students and teachers. She advocated for strong school lunch programs during her career. She was very active in the community, serving as president of the Blount County Republican Women and as secretary of the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women. She was a member of the Mary Blount Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an officer and member of the volunteer board of directors for the Sam Houston Schoolhouse. As a small child she and the family lived in the logging community of Jeffrey, where her father was company doctor. The family also resided in the Carpenters and Vonore communities and in Maryville. As a mother she was involved in Scouting as a den mother, 4-H, band and numerous associated activities. She was a member of Blount Christian Church. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law George and Pat Cabage and Bill and Linda Cabage, grandsons Ian and Sean Cabage, all of Maryville, and Ashley Dangerfield of Oak Ridge, who Grayce and Harold cared for from early childhood. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville. A memorial service for Grayce and her long and remarkable life will follow with Pastor Mark Howard and Elder John Baker officiating.
