Graham Dinwiddie Cooper, Jr., of Greenback, TN, was born December 6, 1929, at Jackson, TN, to G. D. and Carrie Murray Cooper and died in Blount Memorial Hospital September 10, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. of complications from lung cancer. Graham was a farmer in Greenback all of his adult life. He was named outstanding young farmer of the year in 1955 by the U. S. Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a founding director of Greenback Farmers Co-op and served on the Soil Conservation Board of Loudon County where he was awarded a Certificate of Merit for outstanding accomplishment in soil conservation in 1962. Graham was an avid hiker and backpacker, having hiked all of the trails in the Tennessee side of the Smokies, most of the North Carolina side, and several trails in the Rockies. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn and his brother, Jerry. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma Hammontree Cooper; his daughter, Michelle and son-in-law, Ken Fleck; grandchildren, Carrie and Collin of Price, UT; sister, Janice Best of Maryville; and brother, Max of Savannah, GA; sister-in-law, Sue Cooper; brother-in-law, Alfred Hammontree and sister-in-law, June Hammontree, all of Greenback; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, September 13, 2013, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, Greenback, with the funeral at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Ron Sabo and Rev. Jon Faraone officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Cemetery for the interment service.
