Glynden Gay Calhoun -age 93 of Maryville, died December 3, 2010. She was born March 4, 1917 in Loudon, TN. Glynden graduated in 1938 from Averett College. She joined the U.S. Marine Corp in September of 1943 and was stationed in El Toro, California and Hawaii. After World War II Glynden worked with Am Vets in Washington, D.C. and also traveled to Alaska where she was employed by the Corp of Engineers. She had been a resident of Blount County since 1958. Ms. Calhoun was employed by Walter Services of Knoxville and the Little Tennessee Valley Co-op. Glynden had a deep love for her family. Her generosity of spirit was evident to everyone who knew her. Throughout her life, she enjoyed entertaining family and friends and at times opened her home to those who needed a place of support and encouragement. She also enjoyed traveling, often with her aunts, Bonnie Jenkins, Helen Thompson, and Gae Lomax. Throughout the years, Glynden always took great pleasure in the companionship of her many dogs. Glynden was the daughter of Lucy and Charlie Calhoun. She was preceded in death by her brother, William H. Calhoun, and sister, Ruth Satterfield. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert L. Williamson Jr. officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to the wonderful caring staff of Shannondale Assisted Living and Nursing Home, Maryville.
